Week of April 9th

Looking forward to another exciting week! Here are our objectives...

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT

This week we will read about the Council at Jerusalem from Acts 15:1-35. The virtue we will discuss is RESPONSIBILITY. We define responsibility as God's power for you to be accountable to others. The Big Question we will ask ourselves is, "How can you live in unity with Christians who are different than you?"

PHONICS and SPELLING

This week we will read, sort and spell words with the ear and eer spelling sounds and patterns. There are a lot of homophone choices this week. If your child's list has these, be sure to help him/her know the difference in meaning.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES

I hope your second grader told you about the March Book Madness winner!! We had SO much fun with the "tournament" this year!
Our reading focus will continue to involve exploring nonfiction articles. The students will practice determining the main idea and learn to describe reasons that support their thoughts.

GRAMMAR and WRITING
Who knew poetry could be so fun? Last week we dove into the question, "What is poetry?" by reading and sharing lots of different poems. This week, the kiddos will look at life "through the eyes of a poet" and start writing their own poetry!
