Last Week of School

Last Week of School

It's the last week of school!!!

Dear Parents,
The end is here. It is time for me to give you back your children, the same children you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than they were then.

Although they would have attained this growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personality unfold day by day. I give them back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give them back I must. Take care of them, for they are precious. They are gifts from God.

As your children come home this week, I pray that they will continue to hunger for God's word daily. I pray that they will keep their feet on the path of righteousness. I pray that their minds will grow in the knowledge of the Lord, and I pray that that God will protect them and bring them healing and wholeness.

I wish them well, I'll cherish them as they walk out the door. Wherever life may lead them, they're in my heart to stay! Thanks for an amazing year!

Love,
Mrs. Klug

Week of May 14th

My heart is overflowing from all the joy we shared last week.
Wasn't it amazing to see your children boldly share God's Word during chapel?
They did an awesome job!

Only two weeks of school left! This week is going to whiz by with a Monday field trip and "Field Day" on Friday! Here's what's happening during this fun-filled week...

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will revisit the virtue courage as we read about Paul on Mars Hill from Acts 17:16-34. When Paul enters the city, he sees idolatry and becomes angry. Paul had courage and used his spiritual gifts to help teach the Athenians. We define COURAGE as God’s power for you to overcome fear. Therefore, as we read, we will ask ourselves this BIG QUESTION, “How will you find the courage to make Jesus known?”

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
Freckle Juice? Ever tried it? I'm really excited to finish up the year with a class “book club” based on the book Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. We will be reading and responding to the book this week and next, between all of our other fun activities.

NO SPELLING this week!! Spelling is OVER for the year!! However, PLEASE keep your children writing over the summer and keep them accountable for using the spelling patterns we've learned AND make them responsible for spelling sight words correctly. Whether it's writing a grocery list, creating a story or responding to a book, keep those kids writing!!! They are great writers! Please shoot me an e-mail if you'd like a list of the second grade words.

WRITING
The author celebration was a HUGE success! Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to come and rejoice in your child's writing accomplishments! I'm extremely proud of all their hard work! Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for pictures!

Week of May 7th

We had an excellent time visiting Ames Elementary and hearing the famous storyteller, Bobby Norfolk, last Friday.
Some of us even got to help...

We also had another Mystery Reader visit our room.
I hope you heard all about it...

This week is a BIG week for our class. We'll be busy bees getting ready for chapel and the Author Celebration. Thanks for remembering to RSVP.

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will read more about Paul’s journey as we read from Acts 17:19-15 and learn about the Bereans. We’ll revisit the virtue INTEGRITY, which we define as God’s power for you to be true to Him and yourself. As we study this passage, we’ll ask ourselves this “Big Question” – How can you recognize and stay true to God’s message?

PHONICS and SPELLING
This week's spelling will be different. We will pretest on the second grade "Dolch Sight Word" list and students will be tested on words from that list - OR words from their personal lists.

READING
"Benchmark Test" and reviewing "Good Reading Habits" are our goals for the next few weeks. Please encourage your second grader to finish the year strong!

WRITING
Your kiddos are working diligently to prepare for the Author Celebration on Wednesday! They can't wait to share all of their hard work with you.
