Week of April 24th

Ready for another week?
Lots going on in these last few weeks until SUMMER!!
Please ask if you have any questions about Grandparent's (or Special Friend's) Day.
Also, please let us know if your child will NOT have a special friend so we can work something out.

Here's what's going on this week...

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORAMTION PROJECT
The Great Commission - Jesus commands us to go and make disciples... This week we will read from Matthew 28:16-20 and talk about Responsibility. We define responsibility as God's power for you to be accountable to God and others. Imagine standing on top of that mountain with the other disciples. You were with Jesus the last three years and saw him heal people, restore sight to blind people, and forgive people. You saw him die and be put into an empty tomb. Now he stands before you and gives you a command to make disciples of all the people in the world. As you discuss this with your second grader this week, ask yourselves this big question, "How can you share Jesus with everyone you meet?"

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
I am so excited about the genre study that we will begin this week... The kiddos have nonfiction and fiction nailed…so now I want to take them a little deeper. So, as we read and analyze story structure this week, we will be looking further into various genres.

PHONICS and SPELLING
This week we will sort and spell words with _dge, -ge, -lge, -nge, and -rge spelling patterns. As your child studies the words of the week, notice which words rhyme - and have the same ending vowel and consonant sounds.

**Please note**
**The spelling test will still be on Thursday before Grandparents/Special Friend's Day festivities begin**

GRAMMAR and WRITING
Your children were thrilled to begin writing their autobiographies!! We're hoping to get through our rough drafts and maybe even get them revised, edited, and published before our Special Friend's arrive on Thursday.

In grammar our focus will be on adjectives, so we will be sure to add many adjectives in our autobiographies as we revise them!
