Week of April 18th

HE IS RISEN!
HE IS RISEN INDEED!
ALLELUIA!
Happy Easter! I hope you all enjoyed a happy and healthy Easter break.
My family and I had a wonderful time celebrating the paramount and factual event that brings life - Jesus is Risen! It's REAL news!

Only six weeks left until summer vacation. I know they are going to go FAST.
We will continue to work hard. Here's what's in store for this short week.

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will read the heart of God’s eternal story of justice for us, His children. Before break, we saw Jesus dead after being unjustly executed. Jesus, however, went willingly to His death as the only perfect sacrifice for our sins. In Matthew 28, we see Jesus risen again, the triumphant Savior. Our virtue focus this week will be Justice. We remember Justice as God's power for you to do the right thing. By witnessing Jesus’ own sacrifice and His willingness to do the right thing, each of us can be reminded to stand for justice.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
We'll be reading more nonfiction this week as we focus on sorting our ideas to help organize our thoughts and summarize our reading. This will fit perfectly with some reading and studying about Earth Day!

PHONICS and SPELLING
This week we will spell words with hard and soft consonants. Please note that the lists are very different this week. Be sure your child knows list one before he/she moves to list two.
LIST ONE

germ

cave

wagon
gift
gem
LIST TWO

BONUS – resurrection

GRAMMAR and WRITING
In writing we will begin working on autobiographies. This week we will focus on brainstorming the important parts to this piece, and begin "sloppy copies." The grammar focus will be on contractions, so we'll be sure to include those in our autobiographies.
