Week of March 27th

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful break!
I enjoyed a lot of family time, relaxing, and just catching up on "life." I
feel rejuvenated and ready to finish out this year STRONG!
How about you all?
Here's a peek at what we did right before break. It sure feels like a long time ago!
Friday happened to be a cloudy, dark morning, perfect for...
The kids cheered so loudly when I announced we could have flashlight Friday!
Here's what they looked like...It melts my teacher heart!

The kids also worked hard all week or reading Readers Theater scripts. They preformed them on the Friday before break. They all worked very hard on their fluency. Hopefully you all got to see the performance on Seesaw.

Last, we wrote stories about Leprechauns. Each story had a problem and a solution. Each child worked through the writing process so diligently so that they had a final "published piece" by the end of the week. I created QR codes for most of the stories. Come check the hallway and listen!

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will read from Matthew chapter 27 and discuss justice. Christian justice can be defined by God and determined by God. God is the final judge. As we read and learn about how Jesus had to face false charges of the chief priests and have his reputation come into question... we will talk about how these events were no accident. God had orchestrated them and Jesus showed Justice - God's power to do the right thing.

PHONICS and SPELLING
The schwa sound is the most common vowel sound in English. It can disguise itself using any of the five vowel sounds. This week we will study words that use the schwa "uh" sound.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
As we read nonfiction this week, we will work on summarizing the passages and identifying the main idea. Understanding the difference between main idea and supporting details can be challenging. Be sure to ask you second grader questions about the main idea of what they are reading at home.

We will also cast our votes for the March Book Madness Final between the books Gaston and Ivan.  I am so excited to find out which book wins this year's title!

GRAMMAR and WRITING
This week we are going to practice what we are learning in reading - while writing. We are going to write paragraphs to work on main idea and details... and of course, also our grammar skills!
