Week of March 13th

We had a fabulous week celebrating Dr. Seuss
and reading so many of his books...

We even got to share some books with our preschool reading buddies!
Your second graders LOVE reading to these guys!

Did you hear about which books made it to the elite eight for March Book Madness?
Some of us were more excited than others, but here's what we looked like as we filled out our brackets... Some of the choices were REALLY tough!

It's the 4th QUARTER and that is VERY hard to believe! Let's start if off right as we push through one more week until spring break!
Here are this week's objectives...

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
Thia week we will revisit the virtue of responsibility. We describe responsibility as God's power for you to be accountable to Him and others. We will read about the parable of the Talents from Matthew 25:14-30 and discuss what we are doing with the gifts we've been given by God... I challenge you to talk about this at home too and think of ways your family can be responsible with what we've been given.

PHONICS and SPELLING
This week we will sort, identify and spell words with the diphthong oi and oy sounds and spelling patterns.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
I just love using readers theater in the classroom! Reader's theater is defined as a group of students who "perform" a grade level text to an audience. This week we will use various Dr. Seuss readers theater scripts to increase fluency and focus as we practice reading. Keep an eye out for a fun performance on Seesaw. It's going to be incredible watching the children take ownership and lead each other though a performance!

GRAMMAR and WRITING
This week in writing we are going to be writing with a few different prompts. Although selecting our own topics can be fun and allow for much creativity, sometimes having a prompt can relieve the pressure of getting started with an idea and grant the writer a little structure. I can't wait to see what your amazing writers come up with!
