Short Week - February 15th-17th

Welcome back! Thanks for relishing a few days off from school routines this week so that we teachers could enjoy some professional development. Both days were great! It's always refreshing to collaborate with other teachers!
Here's a look back on the last few weeks...
Did anyone hear about cause and effect jeopardy?

Learning while moving is fun!
Irregular verb task cards...

If you haven't heard about March Book Madness you HAVE TO ASK your second grader!
We've read three books from the bracket so far, and everyone is really enjoying rating the books and writing book reviews... Check us out on Twitter for the videos!

 Happy Birthday to Addy!
What yummy treats! Thank you!
And thanks to everyone that helped make our Valentine's Day party a success! Everyone had so much fun! Of course, passing out Valentines is one of the BEST parts!

Because this week is a short week, we will not have some of our normal routines.

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
I really hope you all have been enjoying talking about all of the wonderful virtues we study each week. This week there will be no formal lessons. We will simply review the virtues and discuss examples of how we work hard towards remembering why they are important.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
We'll be reviewing reading strategies as we continue to read about important African Americans in our history. Students will work in pairs to create posters about these people explaining their significance to our country. They are all so eager and interested to learn about this important part of our history! It's inspiring!

Your second graders will also take a reading unit test this week.

PHONICS and SPELLING
NO SPELLING THIS WEEK!!!

WRITING and GRAMMAR
It's March Book Madness time! We just can't read these books fast enough! So far we've read and written reviews on three books. We have thirteen more to go! Ask your second grader about their favorite so far... Voting starts in March! Check out the bracket. Do you have any of these books at home! BTW, We are kind of famous... our very own Cari, was on the MBM website reading her book review of Trombone Shorty!
