The Emperor's New Clothes

Here what's happening this week ...
RELIGION
We will praise our powerful God as we read Joshua and the battle of Jericho, and we will be reminded to confidently trust that God will protect and strengthen us, possibly in unexpected ways. We will also pray for confidence and a stronger faith as we explore the call of Gideon.

MEMORY WORK
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Psalm 50:15

Thanks again for helping our class sponsor Tilida.
Here is her biography...
At 7 years old, Tilida is one of the children in Kawete Village who are school age but due to shortage of funds, Tilida just stays home with her Paternal Aunt during house hold chores. When she was 2 years, Tilida's mother passed away, and a week after her father also passed away leaving behind 4 Children with no one to take care of them. One of Tilida's paternal Aunts, Roy Nangobi then came to their rescue. (Both parents were HIV Positive). She was able to take Tilda and her other older sister to her home in Kawete where Tilda currently stays.  Currently, Tilida's Aunt Nangobi is a casual laborer who goes from one garden to another digging for people and after the job is done, she is given 2,000/= Ugandan shillings (about a quarter). At times when Tilida's Aunt has no one to dig for, they stay hungry. The food eaten on regular basis is posho with some salted water as sauce.

When talked to, Tilida said she envied other Children going to School.

Tilida's favorite color is yellow and she loves playing Dodge ball.

SPELLING & GRAMMAR
This week we will spell words with the "long o" sound. Your children are becoming experts at identifying the different vowel spelling patterns! Ask your child to sort and spell this week's words by the specific pattern. Maybe even consider challenging your child to sort both lists! In grammar this week we will be reviewing plural nouns, possessive singular nouns, and possessive plural nouns.

WRITING
Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, and as the days lead up to Thanksgiving our class will be writing about all the wonderful blessings in our lives.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Have you asked your second grader about our Pilgrim book club? We've been learning so much about where the Pilgrims came from and what they encountered once they arrived to "The New World". We will continue this study and explore the challenges that the pilgrims faced, people they came across, and the first "big old feast".
