Be proud of your second graders.
Conferences went great, and they are doing fantastic work in class. There are not too many pictures to share this week because it was such a short week, but here are a few...

Religion
In religion this week we will learn more about how the people of Israel had many troubles on their way to the Promised Land. But on their way, God continued to show His love for them.
Also, please see the note at the bottom of the blog... This week we will initiate a "change challenge" in an effort to support a child at CCLS-U.

GRAMMAR
The children will learn about an apostrophe this week as we discuss possessive nouns. They will make a singular noun possessive by adding an apostrophe before the 's' and they will make a plural noun possessive by adding an apostrophe after the 's'.
WRITING
Your children are SO excited to share their how-to stories. As they wrap up their final drafts, they will share their stories with a "teach-it day". Some students might make the choice to read their stories and have someone demonstrate as they are reading. Feel free to send in appropriate "props" with your child this week if he or she feels that it is necessary as they share their writing. It's going to be fun!
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will take a break from our Social studies textbook for the next few weeks as we learn and explore Magic Tree House Research Guide - Pilgrims. We will be working on a whole class "book club" as we learn many interesting facts and answers to many of our questions about Pilgrims.
NEWS and NOTES
CCLS-U Change Challenge
This year we would like our second grade classes to sponsor two
students at CCLS-U.
In order to achieve this goal we are going to initiate a
“Change Challenge”.
The Change Challenge is designed as a fun, easy fundraising
project to help support this fabulous cause.
First, the teachers will provide your child with a change jar to
take home. We would like to encourage your family to think of creative ways
your child can earn money to fill their jar. On the first of every month, each
child should bring their change jar back to school and dump the contents into our
large class buckets.
We aim to raise $250 each class, or $500 total, by March 1st. That amount will be enough to support two
second graders at CCLS-U in Uganda!
When we reach (or exceed) our goal we
will have a celebration!
Love,
Your Second Grade Teachers
