I hope you all had a great weekend and that many of you were able to enjoy the carnival. Looking back on last week, I am in awe of how much learning and growing happens every day. Be proud of your children! We've had a great first quarter!
Making Rules vs. Laws posters for Social Studies...
Brainstorming for our new writing "how to" genre...
They are really excited about teaching each other how to do/make things!
Practicing "how to writing" with how to make a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich...
Oh boy, some of our stories were quite silly when they were put to the test!
Practicing all of our grammar rules together...
Fall leaf art projects turned out SO beautiful!
AND... we even got to FaceTime with Mrs. Killian in Uganda!
WOW!! So cool!
I can't believe that we are already into the second quarter. Take a look at what's in store for your second graders as we start new beginnings...
RELIGION
We will wrap up our study of The 10 Commandments with the 10th commandment as our memory work. Then, we will get back to studying about the complaining people of Israel as they journey from Egypt to their new home. We will read about their disobedience, idolatry, and temptations. But God's love will shine through in these stories. The forgiving and giving hand of God will lead the people of Israel on, give them rules, provide for their every need, and defeat their enemies.
MEMORY WORK
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
SPELLING
Our spelling words for the week will have the long a sound. I encourage you to talk to your child about the "spelling rule" for each word. This week's words will have the "ai" or "ay" to stand for the long a sound. Also, if you feel your child is ready for list two, don't forget to discuss and study those words before the test. All of our work in class will be from list one.

GRAMMAR
As we continue to learn about nouns, this week students will learn to identify proper nouns and make sure they are capitalized in their writing. They will also learn to capitalize and punctuate abbreviations.
WRITING
We will continue to work on our "how to" stories. Your children are so excited about this new genre. Hopefully, next week we will share the stories with a "teach it" day.
SOCIAL STUDIES
This week we will continue with our study on the functions of our government. We will go into greater detail about our local, state and federal leaders, and as we explore those leaders, your children will learn about events in history that make all of this possible.
