Week of February 8th

What an exciting week! Please take a moment with your second grader to look back on all the learning opportunities that occurred. So many memories!

First, our field trips were a blast. Thank you to everyone that was able to help.
The timing of our trip to CPH couldn't have been more perfect. As your second graders finished "publishing" their own books this week, they could really understand and appreciate the process and presentation.

At Global Foods the children were super excited to find foods from "their country" and were troopers about trying new things. We even heard an interesting story about lamb head soup. If you didn't hear about it, ask your second grader!
By the way, how are country reports going? They are due in two weeks!
Please let me know if you have any questions!

The children are really excited to learn about weather.
This was an experiment to visualize how it rains...

 AND THEN...
Susan Stevens Crummel came to visit!
She was AMAZING!
We prepared for her visit by reading some of her books.
The book we responded to was called The Little Red Pen. Second graders wrote a squeal to her story and designed characters while learning about personification.
Come check out our hallway!

She was such an inspiration!
We got straight to work!

RELIGION
Unfortunately, because of sin, tragedy can effect anyone, any age, anywhere. That's difficult to understand! As we discuss more miracles of healing, we will learn about how God shows His love for us.  He gives us a sign - Jesus' compassion - and proves to us that Jesus is more powerful than even death and the grave.  We will praise Jesus for taking our sadness away!
MEMORY WORK
I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die. John 11:25-26

NO SPELLING THIS WEEK
!! In grammar we will be reviewing VERBS: Action verbs, linking verbs, helping verbs - past, present, and future.

WRITING
As we gear up for President's Day, this week we will review letter writing and write a class  a letter to the President! Stay tuned, he usually writes back!!

SCIENCE
We will continue our study of weather. Second graders will explore types of clouds. storms, and weather versus natural disasters. We will continue to make inferences, and record data while exploring our natural world. Keep your eyes peeled for science homework this week.
