Well, the countdown begins... Only eight more weeks of second grade.
I know these weeks will fly by, so I encourage you all to challenge your children to work hard and finish strong! You can help by getting them to school on time, reminding them to turn in their spelling homework, and using (then turning in) their reading logs. We can do it!
Congratulations to Ella's mom, Aubry, on the arrival of their family's new baby, Isla. Prayers are welcome, as the new sister is requiring a stay in the NICU. One of our other wonderful classroom moms created a "meal train," which allows people to sign up to make the family meals during this busy time. If you're interested in helping, see the link below.

We also wanted to share a BIG shout out to Mrs. Spangler for coming in and leading a wonderful art lesson last week. Thank you, Mrs. Spangler! The kiddos had SO much fun and learned a lot about art too!
Here's what's in store for next week...
CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will read from John chapter 19, and study Jesus' Trial. The virtue we will focus on is JUSTICE. We define JUSTICE as God's power for you to do what is right, according to His word. As we explore this story, we will ask ourselves this TOUGH "Big Question" - How can you not be angry when you are treated unfairly?
PHONICS and SPELLING
This week we will read, sort and spell words ending with air and are spelling sounds and patterns.
READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
In reading, your second graders will continue to read and discuss nonfiction articles, identify text features, and determine the main idea from the text.
GRAMMAR and WRITING
We'll be launching a poetry unit in writing this week. Students will work on seeing the world "through the eyes of a poet." As they practice seeing, hearing, and feeling things in a new way, they'll also try putting those thoughts into words!
Don't forget to mark your calendars for our "Writing Celebration" on May 8th, which is just after our class chapel. This is a big event you won't want to miss!
