CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
This week we will review the virtue of diligence. We remember diligence as God’s power for us to focus on our work. As we explore Matthew 24, we will discuss all the blessings that God has given us, and see how many of our accomplishments were achieved through hard work. God promises many things. One of those promises is His return, However, He leaves out the day and time of His return… Ask yourselves this “big question” this week, “How can you be ready for Jesus' return, no matter when it happens?"
READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
Summarizing is one of the hardest strategies for students to learn. Many students will retell the text ... almost word for word when asked to give a summary. A summary is a higher level response than a retelling. In a retelling, students retell as much as they can recall from the text - but in a summary they have to combine the text and reduce it so that they only highlight the key points using key words and phrases from the text. This week we will work on the “Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then” (SWBST) format, which is a great support for guiding students to give a summary NOT a retell.
PHONICS and SPELLING
In spelling this week students will identify, sort and spell words with the ow and ou spelling sounds and patterns.

BONUS – March Book Madness
GRAMMAR and WRITING
We've got three more books to read and review before we submit our first round of votes for March Book Madness on Tuesday. Then, we'll see how we match up to the rest of the participants across the world... some even from as far away as Singapore! Your students have worked really hard on using "good writing habits" as they write their reviews. Come check the halls to see how we compare to other classes at our school. Bring your smartphone so you can scan a few QR codes!
Our specific grammar skill this week will focus on pronouns.
