I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I was thrilled to be able to meet Mrs. Leet's new grand-babies. They are adorable, beautiful miracles.... and her daughter, (my life-long friend) is also doing well. I couldn't be happier for Mrs. Leet and her family!!
Thanks for all of your quick returns on the last minute "paperwork" items last week! I apologize for sending things home late.
If you would still like to order a class book, I can accept payments until tomorrow. If you ordered online, I still need the form back. I have to mail our package on Tuesday so that we reach our publishing date.
Also, thanks for sending back the Veteran's Day stars. The kids really enjoyed learning about Veteran's Day and honoring your friends and family in the military. If you still have stars at home that you'd like to add to our wall, please send them in anytime this week. I told the kiddos that they did not need a picture of their Veteran, so don't go out of your way for that. Thanks to all of our Veteran's...
Here are all of the goals and objectives for next week
CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
Just as the Lord saw the
blood of the lamb on the doorposts of the Hebrews in Egypt and spared them from
the plague that killed Egypt’s firstborn, so God the Father sees us washed with
the blood of the lamb and spares us from the wages of our sins. This week we will study the Passover and discuss Justice. Justice is God’s power for you to do the right
thing. While talking about this with your child this week, ask yourselves this
question, “How can you escape from sin and be protected from the judgment that
results from it?”
READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
This week we will continue to learn and practice inferences. When your child infers, the use what they already know (their schema) plus the words and pictures from the text to draw conclusions. This is a challenging skill. It requires students to really think about answers that aren't just in the book. Practice asking questions that require inference with your child at home!
We will also be reading and researching about Pilgrims with a whole class "book club." The book is a Magic Treehouse Pilgrim Research Guide. Your kids are going to love learning so many interesting facts about Pilgrims while using all of their reading skills and strategies!
PHONICS and SPELLING
Your second graders will work on identifying and blending words with long o spelling patterns (ow, oe, oa, o).

GRAMMAR and WRITING
As we study about pilgrims this week, students will do a lot of writing as a response to reading. They'll be comparing and contrasting themselves to what life was like for the pilgrims and using what they know about grammar as they write.
