September 8th - 11th

Last week was another great week!
More authors in the author's chair...
Good times with Mrs. Ladd's class
learning about how to handle our feelings and emotions...
Making our own globes with all 7 continents
(as best we could...)

 Learning about the difference between
maps and globes with oranges?!?!
"Buddy reading" in our religion books...

And making our own maps of our classroom...

Your children are learning and working very hard!
Here's what to expect for this week...

RELIGION
This week we are going to take a break from our normal religion curriculum and learn about our ministry with Uganda, Africa. Kawete is a little village located in a remote part of Uganda, Africa, one of the most impoverished countries in the world. There is no running water and little to no electricity. The life expectancy is one of the lowest in the world as AIDS and malaria run rampant, the majority of the population live far below the poverty level, and the list goes on. Yet, some of the most beautiful children in the world - God's little princes and princesses - have the opportunity to receive a Christian education every day of the week at CCLS-U thanks to the efforts of CCLS-USA.

As we learn we will also work on a project to share with the students in Kawete. Our love will be OVERFLOWING this week!

                MEMORY WORK
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."  Matthew 28:19

SPELLING
In spelling our words will cover the "short a" and "long a" sounds. As you and your child review the spelling words this week, be sure to find the difference between the two sounds.
                 SPELLING WORDS
                      bag      cap     ham     mad     back
                      bake    ate      cape    made   rake

GRAMMAR
How is a sentence complete? This week we will be discussing complete and incomplete sentences. We will learn about the importnace of the subject in every sentnce. The subject tells who or what does something.

WRITING
Your children are very excited to start "publishing" the stories on which they have been working so feverishly. As they wrap up their stories, we will explore "The Writing Process."

SOCIAL STUDIES
Hopefully you all saw the social studies homework that went home last Friday. Just as a reminder, that is due on Wednesday, September 9th. I will grade it, and return it on Thursday so that your child can use it as a study guide for our test on Friday, September 11th

As we conclude our unit on maps we will finish up our "birds eye view" maps of our classroom, and we will also tie in an exploration of maps with our study of Uganda, Africa.
