Last Week of School

It's the last week of school!!!

Dear Parents,
The end is here. It is time for me to give you back your children, the same children you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible and more mature than they were then.

Although they would have attained this growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personality unfold day by day. I give them back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give them back I must. Take care of them, for they are precious. They are gifts from God.

As your children come home this week, I pray that they will continue to hunger for God's word daily. I pray that they will keep their feet on the path of righteousness. I pray that their minds will grow in the knowledge of the Lord, and I pray that that God will protect them and bring them healing and wholeness.

I wish them well, I'll cherish them as they walk out the door. Wherever life may lead them, they're in my heart to stay! Thanks for an amazing year!

Love,
Mrs. Klug

Week of May 15th

My heart is overflowing from all the love I received last week.
You are all amazing and really made me feel appreciated!
Thank you so very much for all the gifts, goodies, cards and gift cards!
What a blessing this bunch has been!!

Also, my heart melted on Wednesday when your children boldly shared the Gospel at chapel.  They did an amazing job!

Only two weeks of school left! This week is going to whiz by with a Monday field trip and "Field Day" on Friday! Here's what's happening during this fun-filled week...

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
The early believers sacrificially shared their time, efforts, attention, and possessions, placing others’ needs above their own. We can and must do the same as we follow Jesus. We can share everything we have and who we are with those around us because everything we have is from God and ultimately belongs to Him. This week we will revisit SELF-SACRIFICE in Acts 2:42-47 and 4:32-37. We remember self-sacrifice as God’s power for you to give something up to help others. As you mull over self-sacrifice, think about how sharing your life can change your life.

WRITING
The author celebration was a HUGE success! Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to come and rejoice in your child's writing accomplishments! I'm so extremely proud of all of their hard work! Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for pictures!

NO SPELLING this week!! Spelling is over for the year!! However, PLEASE keep your children writing over the summer and keep them accountable for using the spelling patterns we've learned AND make them responsible for spelling sight words correctly. Whether it's writing a grocery list, creating a story, or responding to a book, keep those kids writing!!! They are great writers! Please shoot me an e-mail if you'd like a list of the second grade sight words.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
Freckle Juice? Ever tried it? I'm really excited to finish up the year with a class book club based on the book Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. We will be reading and responding to the book this week and next, between all of our other fun activities. My hope is that this will inspire them to try written responses to reading over the summer.

Week of May 8th

BE PROUD!
Wow! Everyone worked SO hard and did their best on the Achievement Tests last week! Thanks for making sure your child had a healthy breakfast and was well rested. I can't believe there are only three weeks of school left! It's going to be a wild ride! Also, thanks to those of you that returned your RSVP for the "Author Celebration" this Wednesday. We are SO excited! More info below...

Beautiful moment when God gave us some sun...
National Day of Prayer... #secondattempt

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER FORMATION PROJECT
How does God give you COURAGE to do BIG things? As we read about Pentecost from Acts 2:1-41 we will discuss the virtue of COURAGE.  We define courage as God’s power for you to overcome fear. Christian courage is grounded in the God who drives out fear with His love. Our God is the one who creates and provides for all. He protects us from sin, death and the devil through the life, death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, He empowers His people to live courageously for others.

READING SKILLS and STRATEGIES
As we read and analyze text structure of nonfiction this week, we will look at how the different parts are organized. Then, we will draw conclusions based on the text, the pictures, and our SCHEMA! We can say I planned this but... the "story of the week" is an autobiography!! How cool! We just finished autobiographies!! AND... not only is it an autobiography, but it is an autobiography about an author's life and how she gets her ideas!! I think your second graders are going to have a lot of connections!!

PHONICS and SPELLING
This week students will identify, sort, and spell words with r-controlled vowels. Please note any student doing list two words - the two lists are very different again this week. Be sure to study!

GRAMMAR and WRITING
Have you RSVP'd to our Author's Celebration? If not, be sure to mark your calendars for this Wednesday, May 10th!! First, join us for chapel, and then meet us in classrooms B&C on the church side of the building. Your children are excited to share all their written work with you! We have a variety of genres to reveal; they've worked really hard!

Our formal grammar lesson this week will target the article "an" and when we use "an" or "a" in our sentences. It's always so funny when the kiddos look back at their writing from the beginning of the year and see how much they've grown in grammar, spelling, and craft!
